  Do you continue to spend countless hours shaving, or have undesired hair in embarrassing places? Now there is a safe, minimally painful alternative to reducing unwanted hair from your body… Laser hair reduction. How does it work? The laser beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles, the pigment in these follicles absorb the light and destroys the hair. Why do we say reduction instead of removal? Some people may experience new hair growth during times of hormonal change like pregnancy and menopause or during aging. During the treatment you may feel a snapping sensation like a rubber band. Some people have mild temporary redness and swelling around the hair follicles which may last several hours to days. Side effects? There is a possibility of redness, swelling, and loss or increase of pigmentation in the area. These are minimized by a thorough skin assessment and history by our trained technicians. Why are multiple treatments necessary? Our hair goes through multiple phases of growth and shedding. The laser can only target hair in the active growth phase which cycles every 4 weeks, the hair that has been targeted and destroyed will then shed over the next few weeks. It is important to stick to your treatment cycle of every 4-6 weeks. Do I need to prepare? Yes, you should not tan, use self tanner, wax, or pluck for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. You should not take any photo-sensitizing medication for two weeks prior to treatment. If the area is sun exposed you should also wear a minimum SPF 30 sunscreen. You will also need to shave the area within 24 prior to treatment.

Most cases of hair loss are due to genetics, and are treatable if caught in time. The average person loses about 50-100 hairs a day. This is normal. While there is no set number of hairs for determining an abnormal amount of hair loss, if someone starts noticing a large amount of hair on their pillow or comb, they should consult a physician. This is especially the case if they start experiencing bald patches or thinning hair which can be the signs of an underlying medical condition. There are many types of hair loss (also known as alopecia). Hair loss can be classified into two categories: cicatricial (scarring) alopecia and non-cicatricial (non-scarring) alopecia. Identifying the Type of Hair Loss to Determine Treatment Options Before a treatment method can be recommended, Dr. Jennessa Iannitelli will determine what caused the hair loss. During the evaluation process, she will ask whether the hair loss is sudden or gradual, if you are taking any medication, have allergies, a family history of baldness, or if you have been dieting. If you are female, she might ask you about your menstrual cycle, if you are pregnant, or if you are experiencing menopause. Dr. Iannitelli will inspect your scalp for an indication of hair loss. This is usually done by conducting a pull test to determine the localization and severity of hair loss, or by inspecting the hair on other parts of the body. Dr. Iannitelli will also conduct a blood test to get the necessary information to determine if you are a good candidate for hair loss treatment. Treatment for Hair Loss Once underlying health issues for hair loss have been ruled out and cause of hair loss has been identified, then we can consider treatment options for that particular type of hair loss. What is PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma? PRP Platelet Rich Plasma is a treatment derived from a person’s own blood platelets to enhance hair growth. PRP contains a number of growth factors which stimulate cell repair and damage control, including in this situation recruiting new hair growth. In the field of cell therapy and tissue regeneration research is continuing to progress regarding the use of PRP’s ability to attract, stimulate and orchestrate stem cell activity to improve wound healing and naturally rejuvenate skin and hair follicles. Treatments can range from shallow (which might be appropriate for eliminating fine lines, sun spots and tired-looking skin) to deep (which is often used to improve skin tone/texture and eliminate deep wrinkles, even in difficult areas like upper lip lines and crow’s feet). In Fractional Resurfacing, the laser removes pinpoint columns of skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. Why Amniotic Fluid Amniotic fluid, the protective liquid surrounding an unborn baby, is normally discarded as medical waste during caesarean section deliveries. However, evidence shows that this fluid is a source of valuable biological material, including multiple growth factors with the potential for use in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Depending on the depth, intensity, and colors of your tattoo it can take about 6 treatments 4 to 8 weeks apart. More treatment sessions may be necessary on challenging tattoos. For most people, the feeling of laser tattoo removal has been compared to what it feels like when getting a tattoo or a snap against the skin. We use a cooling device during the entire treatment and offer patients a numbing cream to help minimize any discomfort. The combination of the cooling device and numbing cream work great and also the treatment is very fast! How Much Downtime Will I Have? Everyone heals at different speeds but the downtime is minimal. You can go about your daily routine immediately but you will want to keep your treated tattoo out of the sun, bathtub, swimming pool, or lakes until the skin heals. Avoid contact sports or other activities that could injure the area. Following the aftercare instructions closely will help make sure your healing time is minimal. Tattoo Removal Aftercare Instructions: Clean the treated area daily, allowing water or shower to run over the treated area and then pat the area dry. Apply a nice layer of unpetroleum ointment (included in your treatment) to the treatment area 2 to 3 times per day. Keep the area moist and let the scab fall off on its own. Apply a clean pad over the treated area until its healed. If crusting occurs, do not shave or pick treated area, simply apply more unpetroleum ointment. No rubbing or scratching the treated area. Discomfort may be relieved by ice packs or Acetaminophen. No swimming or using hot tubs or whirlpools until the treated area heals. Small blistering is normal. Avoid sun exposure. When treatment area might be exposed to the sun after sloughing has occurred, use a 30+ SPF sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium and reapply every 2 hours. Do not use chemical based sunblock. How will my skin look after the laser treatment? Following your treatment there will be an immediate slight whitening or “frosting” of the skin, however, that will subside immediately after the treatment is complete. You may also experience mild swelling, redness and small blistering, all of which are normal. How often will I need treatments? While it typically takes 4-8 weeks for the body to absorb the ink particles, every patient and tattoo responds differently. Following the recommended post-treatment protocol will likely improve the results and reduce the chance of small adverse events. Will My Entire Tattoo Be Completely Removed? While Pico lasers are effective, no laser tattoo removal can strip the skin of all colored ink pigments. Black and grey ink are the easiest to remove, closely followed by dark green. Yellow, purple, and fluorescent hues are the most difficult to remove. Occasionally depending on how the tattoo was applied small areas of hyperpigmentation may also occur. Can My Port Wine Stain Be Removed like a Tattoo? The Pico laser is one of the best treatment options for removing these birthmarks and can be very successful.
